PREPARING FOR A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH GOD’S BLESSINGS

As we step into the new year, excitement often fills our hearts. Yet, when we look back on the past year, we may recall unbearable situations, losses, or challenges. The struggles we’ve faced might lead us into the new year with fear, asking questions like, “How will I face the new year? What will it bring?” Perhaps you’ve started each year with positive thoughts, only to experience disappointments, leaving you weary of the term “New Year.”

Let us instead prepare our hearts for a year of joy and prosperity, aligning ourselves with God’s plans. Here are three steps to help you experience a truly blessed new year:

1. Seek God’s Plan for the New Year

Having a solid plan can spark excitement for the new year, but often our plans fall short because we cannot foresee the future. How can we create a successful strategy? Consider the example of Jehoshaphat. When Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir came against him, he confessed his uncertainty: “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

Jehoshaphat sought God’s guidance, gathered the Israelites to praise the Lord, and trusted Him to fight their battles. As a result, God caused the enemy armies to destroy each other, leaving abundant blessings for His people to collect.

Like Jehoshaphat, we must seek God’s plan with humility and praise. When we surrender our uncertainties to Him, God will remove obstacles and reveal the abundance awaiting us in the new year.

2. Save the Prayer for the New Year

A pastor once said, “Our prayers will wait until the day appointed by the Lord to be fulfilled.” Just as those with wealth don’t fear financial troubles, those who consistently pray can entrust their future to God without worry.

Zechariah and Elizabeth prayed for a child in their youth but stopped expecting this blessing as they grew older. Yet, God remembered their prayers. The angel told Zechariah, “Your prayer has been heard” (Luke 1:13). Though Zechariah doubted due to his age (Luke 1:18), God fulfilled His promise at the appointed time.

Our prayers are stored in heaven, waiting for God’s perfect timing. As we enter the new year, let us dedicate time to prayer, trusting that every petition is a seed for God’s appointed blessings.

3. Don’t Let the Locusts Eat Your Blessings

Even the greatest blessings can be lost if we allow sin and weakness to devour them. Just as lavish spending can deplete wealth, our disobedience, anger, temptations, or lack of faith can act as locusts, consuming God’s grace in our lives.

Saul, though chosen as king, allowed disobedience to eat away at his dignity and blessings. To protect our blessings, we must examine ourselves and ask, as the Psalmist did: “See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:24).

Lay every weakness at the feet of Jesus and ask for His cleansing power. Through His blood, we can overcome the locusts and preserve the blessings God has prepared for us in the new year.

By following these three steps—seeking God’s plan, saving your prayers, and guarding your blessings—you can prepare to step joyfully into the new year. Remember, the Lord who goes before you is greater and mightier than any challenge you may face. Trust in Him, and He will accomplish great things for you.

May this new year be filled with His abundant blessings and divine favor. Amen!
