“DO NOTHING AND GET YOUR REWARDS!”

The title might seem like clickbait at first glance because we’ve all encountered headlines like “Secrets to earning thousands of dollars in a single day”—designed purely to attract attention. However, the title of this article is not clickbait at all. In this article, I’ll show you how to earn greater rewards in heaven without doing anything in certain circumstances. This “doing nothing” refers to enduring persecution with patience—without retaliation, murmuring, or backsliding—and allowing God to add rewards to your heavenly account. Let’s explore how we can claim these heavenly rewards, as revealed in Scripture.

Theme Verse: Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven. (Mat. 5:11-12 KJV)

According to the theme verse, when we face persecution, false accusations, or mistreatment—whether in our families, workplaces, or elsewhere—for being a child of God (which means being saved), we need not feel hurt or risk becoming backsliders. The verse assures us that those who endure such trials are blessed, as their reward in Heaven is great. Earning heavenly rewards is no simple task; it requires living a holy life, accomplishing God’s will, and faithfully engaging in Kingdom work. Yet, this verse highlights a unique way to add to our heavenly credits—enduring these challenges without any physical effort.

In the book of Acts, we see page after page filled with accounts of the persecution faced by the apostles and all who were saved. They were beaten, imprisoned, and tormented in countless ways; some were even martyred. Yet, what compelled them to continue sharing the gospel so boldly?

The answer lies in,

Acts 5:41: “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.”

The verse clearly illustrates how the apostles viewed persecution. They believed that being persecuted for the sake of God was a privilege and a blessing, a sign that they were deemed worthy by God. In other words, just as certain qualifications, skills, and experiences are required for someone to attain higher positions in life, being persecuted for God requires spiritual worthiness. The apostles rejoiced in their persecution, recognising it as a blessing that demonstrated their worth in God’s eyes. They also understood that these trials would fill their heavenly accounts with bonus rewards. This perspective allowed them to view persecution as a season of great spiritual opportunity and to embrace it joyfully with a heavenly mindset.

Let’s take a moment to compare our faith and endurance in trials with those of these saints. We must ask ourselves how we are handling persecutions, trials, and troubles for the sake of God. It’s natural to feel spiritually tired when facing such challenges, but as children of God, we must recognize the worth in being persecuted for His name. If God allows persecution in our lives, it is because He sees us as worthy of such trials for His sake. Furthermore, God will never leave us empty-handed in our suffering—He adds greater rewards to our heavenly account. So, the next time persecution knocks at your door, receive it with a smile, knowing that your heavenly account is being filled with treasures that will last forever. God bless!
