Inspiring Youth of Today: Tyleah Nelson

A ray of sunshine, passionate, outstanding, and humble are some of the characteristic traits that describe Tyleah Nelson, a senior at Wayne High School. Tyleah has a heart of gold that touches everyone she meets. Her humility and dependence on GOD at a young age is so inspiring. Many people look to Tyleah for hope. Tyleah’s love for learning and her dedication to excellence, along with her strong faith in GOD, distinguish Tyleah from her peers. Tyleah is an example of what it looks like to be goal-driven and possibility-focused. We can only imagine what GOD has in store for Tyleah!

Leticia: Who is Tyleah Nelson?

Tyleah: I am Tyleah Nelson, a senior at Wayne New Tech High School. I aspire to one day become a family nurse practitioner because it is my passion to help humanity. I really enjoy being a service to others and caring for the youth. I live by being kind to others because you never know what someone is going. I have managed to maintain excellent academic grades and keep a 3.9 or higher-grade point average, which I am very proud of. I was inducted into the National Honor Society in my junior year of high school. Also, I’ve been awarded for highest academic achievement for all four years of my high school career. All of this would not have been possible without having faith in God. I have experienced some of my most challenging times as a teenager in high school, and God has been my only source of strength along with my loved ones. I know that HE doesn’t put more on me than I can handle, and I Am Possible® through Christ who strengthens me. So, I am thankful to HIM for leading me this far and being there to guide me through those hard times. God has used my mother, siblings, and My Apostle, Dr. Oscar Nelson Dowdell-Underwood, to be my greatest source of encouragement.

Leticia: What advice would you give young people trying to balance academics, extracurricular activities, and GOD?

Tyleah: To the young people who are trying to balance it all with academics, extracurricular activities, and GOD, I would encourage you to live in the moment. We only live once, so you have to maximize the time that you are given here on earth. Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood always reminds us to “Carpe Deim.” Appreciate those who have been there for you, and don’t take the little things for granted. Don’t be so hard on yourself or stress over the small things. Trust that you can fulfill the assignment GOD has placed on your life. Ultimately, as long as you give your best with pure intentions, that’s all that matters. Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help, especially if you have people around you that would give it. Keep God first, don’t quit, and you got this!
