“DISCONNECTING ACTION AND FEELING”

Recently, I’ve been reading a book titled “The Mountain Is You” by Brianna Weist. I am aware of my tendency to self-sabotage my God-Given purpose and dreams, and by God’s Grace and the strength He has given me, I am learning how to stop doing it bit by bit. One of the things I have been practicing is disconnecting my actions and feelings. As a teenager, almost everything I do is based on my “mood” and emotions. One moment, I was very productive, and then in a few hours, I was not. Weist stated in her book, “We are not held back in life because we are incapable of making a change. We are held back because we don’t feel like making change, and so we don’t”. As ambassadors of Christ here on earth, we have a lot of things to do instead of just scrolling on our phones for hours. We have a lot of souls to fish, and “I don’t feel like doing it” is never an excuse because the time is at hand. Matthew 25:13 says that we need to “keep watch” because “we do not know the day or the hour.” so we must always be ready and waste no time. God used the book I was reading to make me realize that it is time to stop justifying. Our intentions do not measure our lives; they are measured by our outcomes. I remember the quote Dr. NDU, my mentor and high school headmaster, always reminded us, “Life is the sum total of your choices.” It is not about what you want to choose; it is about what you choose. It is not about wanting to read the Bible; it is about whether or not you did read the Bible. As Weist said, “When we have a goal, dream, or plan, there is no measure of intent. It is only whether you did it or did not”. Sabotaging God’s plan for our lives is not a sign of godliness and does not reflect the nature of God. Therefore, we must do the things we need to do to achieve something, even if we don’t feel like doing it.

A little reminder to aspiring writers out there: Just write. Scribble words without thinking of how you can be a best-selling author. Just write and use your talent for the glory of God.
